In a decisive move against the manufacturing of illicit liquor, the Nicobar District Police conducted a special excise raid at Perka Village, Car Nicobar, on November 10, 2025. The operation was led by SI J. Rama Krishna, In-Charge, PS Car Nicobar, along with the beat police team.
During the raid, the team recovered 5,027 litres of Lahan (fermented wash) from various concealed locations within a coconut garden belonging to the accused. The recovered lahan was destroyed on the spot under videography and photography documentation using the E-Shakshya app. Additionally, 4.5 litres of illicit liquor and a distillation apparatus (bhatti items) were seized as evidence.
Following the seizure, a case was registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Excise Regulation, 1876 (Reg. III of 1876).
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Samuel Solomon, DANIPS, SDPO Car Nicobar, and the overall direction of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SP (D) Nicobar.
The Nicobar District Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards illegal distillation and trade of illicit liquor, emphasizing their continued commitment to maintaining law and order.
