Nicobar Times had recently reported on the problems of residents of Kamal Basthi, Campbell Bay due to non-functional taps installed under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The residents had no option but to use old community taps and carry water in vessels to their homes.
The residents were not able to get adequate quantity of water for their day-to-day needs due to the faulty PPR Pipeline laid under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
After Nicobar Times published the report, the officials of APWD immediately swung into action and installed new pipelines in that particular area within Kamal Basthi. The new pipelines were made functional today and the residents are now receiving adequate quantity of water, sufficient for their day-to-day needs.
The PPR Pipelines which have been installed under the Jal Jeevan Mission will also be rectified soon and adequate water will be made available to every household in Great Nicobar Island.
The residents of the area informed Nicobar Times that the inner diameter of the pipelines installed in households under the Jal Jeevan Mission is not adequate. The residents demanded that such pipes should be replaced with pipes with larger inner diameter.
