In preparation for the two-day coastal security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ scheduled for April 30 and May 1, 2025, the North & Middle Andaman District Police conducted a series of Fishermen Watch Group Meetings across all police station jurisdictions in the district.
The initiative was aimed at sensitising the fishing community about their pivotal role in safeguarding the coastline. Recognising fishermen as the “eyes and ears” of coastal security, the police briefed them on the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious movements, vessels, or activities encountered at sea.
Officers stressed the need for real-time information sharing to enable swift and effective police response. Fishermen were also educated on standard protocols for communicating intelligence inputs and were assured of full support and protection from the police.
The meetings formed part of the district police’s broader effort to strengthen community policing and enhance coastal vigilance ahead of the Sagar Kavach exercise—a coordinated security drill involving multiple agencies.
The North & Middle Andaman District Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining a secure coastline and called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders, especially the local fishing community.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any credible information regarding crimes or illegal activities to the nearest police station or via phone numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential and may also be eligible for rewards.
