No More Fines in South Andaman for Masks, Social Distancing and Other COVID Related Violations

District Magistrate, South Andaman has withdrawn his order for enforcing fines for violation of lockdown guidelines and the National Directives of COVID-19 Management issued vide Order No. 27 Dated 10th January 2022.

Now no fines will be imposed in South Andaman District for not wearing face masks and for not maintaining social distancing in public places. Fines have also been withdrawn for all other COVID-19 related violations.

The order from District Magistrate South Andaman comes after the Home Secretary, Govt. of India on 22nd March 2022 informed all States and UTs that the National Disaster Management Authority has decided that there may not be any further need to invoke the provisions of the DM Act for COVID Containment Measures after the expiry of the existing orders issued on 25th Feb 2022.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) advisories on COVID containment measures including the use of face masks and hand hygiene will continue to guide the overall national response to the pandemic. 

The order of the District Magistrate also states that whenever any surge in the number of cases is observed prompt and proactive steps will be taken at local levels as advised by MoHFW from time to time.
