Non-Motorized Watersports to Be Introduced at RK Pur Dam in Little Andaman

In a move aimed at promoting recreational tourism and enhancing visitor experience, the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has initiated steps to introduce non-motorized watersports activities at the RK Pur Dam site in Little Andaman.

As part of the initiative, a comprehensive risk assessment study was conducted in coordination with the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Based on the findings and recommendations of the study, several non-motorized watersports activities have been found suitable and safe for operation at the site.

The activities approved for the RK Pur Dam include kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, paddle boats for sightseeing, rowing boats and aqua zorbing. These activities are expected to provide new recreational options for tourists while maintaining environmental sustainability and safety.

Following the assessment, the Directorate of IP&T has invited applications from interested individuals, firms, agencies, entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders to operate the approved non-motorized watersports activities at RK Pur Dam. Operators will be required to strictly adhere to the prescribed safety norms and operational guidelines.

Interested applicants have been advised to submit their applications to the Water Sports Section of the Directorate of IP&T within the stipulated time frame.
