In a major breakthrough against illegal poaching, the Andaman & Nicobar Police apprehended nine more Myanmarese poachers on August 24, 2025, during relentless anti-poaching operations in the vulnerable forest areas of North & Middle Andaman. The arrests were made from the dense jungles of Khaal Gora near Jal Tikrey, Elizabeth Bay, and Talbagan, taking the total number of apprehensions to 23 so far.

The ongoing operations, covering nearly 100 sq. km of remote and thickly forested terrain—including Nappi Ghop, Loha Tikrey, Khaal Gora, and Talbagan—reflect the scale, coordination, and determination of security forces to dismantle organized poaching networks. Officials described it as the largest and most sustained anti-poaching campaign in the district this year, both in intensity and reach.

Search and combing operations are continuing in remote forest stretches to ensure that no members of these organized groups remain undetected. Authorities emphasized that the drive marks a crucial step toward safeguarding the fragile ecosystem of the Islands and curbing the exploitation of marine resources.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against illegal poaching, the A&N Police urged the public to share credible information on any crime or illegal activity with their nearest police station or through helpline numbers 100, 112, and 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential and suitably rewarded.
