In a relentless effort to combat the rampant illegal trade of illicit liquor, Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), and drugs, the District Police of North & Middle Andaman, with the invaluable assistance of local informers, have undertaken a series of rigorous operations, raids, and searches in the region’s dense jungles throughout the month of October-2023.

Led by Station House Officers (SHOs) and other dedicated law enforcement officers, various police teams have executed extensive raids and massive jungle search operations, resulting in the destruction of a substantial quantity of illegal substances. During these operations, approximately 2,600 litres of ‘lehan,’ 43 litres of illicit liquor, and a staggering 155 kilograms of ‘Handia’ were confiscated and subsequently destroyed.

In addition to this impressive haul, the District Police registered 38 cases under the Excise Regulation, leading to the seizure of 279 bottles of IMFL of varying quantities. In connection with these cases, 38 individuals were apprehended and taken into custody. Notably, the police has been vigilant in monitoring individuals with a history of criminal activities, making it increasingly challenging for them to engage in illegal endeavours. As part of this effort, fresh history sheets have been opened to intensify surveillance on bootleggers and repeat offenders.

Furthermore, the District Police’s commitment to maintaining law and order extends to narcotics control. Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the authorities registered three cases and arrested four individuals, confiscating 440 grams of illicit ganja and 2 grams and 77 milligrams of Methamphetamine in the process.

The public is encouraged to actively participate in these efforts by providing credible information related to any criminal or illegal activities to their nearest police station or through designated phone numbers, including 100, 112, and 03192-273344. It is assured that the identity of informers will remain confidential, and they will be duly rewarded.
