In a continued crackdown against illegal liquor activities, police carried out a jungle search operation in the Shyamkund jungle area under the jurisdiction of OP Bakultala on Monday, foiling an attempt to manufacture illicit liquor.
The operation was conducted on March 16 by a police team led by Head Constable Pradeep Bairagi, In-charge of OP Bakultala, along with HC(SG) P.M. Topno, HG(R) Swapan Biswas, and Home Guards Volunteers Harajit Bairagi and Sanjit Sikder as part of the ongoing drive against illegal liquor activities in North and Middle Andaman district.
During the search, the team recovered around 150 litres of illicit lehan concealed in the jungle area. The recovered lehan, along with bhatti materials used for distillation, was destroyed on the spot as per due procedure, thereby preventing its use for the manufacture of illicit liquor.
Police said that strict enforcement drives are being carried out across the district to curb the manufacture and sale of illicit liquor and other illegal activities.
The North and Middle Andaman District Police have urged the public to share any credible information related to crime or illegal activities with the nearest police station or through helpline numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344.
