A delegation from the Nagarpalika Swachhtha Karmachari Sangh (NSKS), led by Mr. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, President of the Andaman Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh (ANRKM), met the newly elected State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Anil Tiwari, today to extend their congratulations.

During the visit, Mr. Shyam Sunder Rao, President of NSKS, and Mr. D. Palaniandi, Secretary of NSKS, felicitated Mr. Tiwari with an angvastra. Other committee members present on the occasion also congratulated the BJP leader and distributed sweets to mark the occasion.

Taking the opportunity, the delegation highlighted the pressing issues faced by the working class of the Municipal Council, especially sanitary workers. Mr. Vijay Nair, Finance Secretary of ANRKM, stressed the urgent need for regularization of services, pointing out the reduced life expectancy among sanitation workers and the distress caused to families upon the death of employees. He expressed concern that the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) has not been considering compensatory appointments in such cases.

In response, Mr. Anil Tiwari acknowledged the issues and mentioned that the current Modi Government has sanctioned only 1/30th of the pay to all Daily Rated Mazdoors (DRMs). He assured the delegation that he would escalate the matter to the BJP’s national leadership and the concerned Ministry, emphasizing that the regularization of these casual employees—requiring an estimated Rs. 20 crore in additional funds—deserves serious consideration since the Municipal Council functions as an autonomous body.

Mr. Tiwari further assured that once the National President of BJP and the necessary organizational committees for the A&N Islands are announced, he would place the issue before the appropriate forums to seek resolution.

Mr. Mathuraiveeran, a member of the delegation, expressed gratitude to Mr. Tiwari for his time and for patiently listening to the concerns of the workers.
