The Organisation for South and South East Asia Development (OFSSEAD), in association with the Directorate of Sports and the Gram Panchayat, Wimberly Gunj, successfully organized the Open Champion’s Trophy Men’s Day & Night Football Tournament 2025 at the Mini Stadium, Wimberly Gunj.
The grand finale, held on October 18, witnessed an electrifying clash between United Sporting Club (USC) and AB Wimberly Gunj. Displaying outstanding coordination and skill, United Sporting Club dominated the match with a resounding 4–0 victory to lift the Champion’s Trophy, while AB Wimberly Gunj settled for the Runner-up position after a spirited fight.
Er. Prjith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Er. Mumtaz Ali, Executive Engineer, RCD, APWD, attended as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries lauded OFSSEAD’s sustained efforts in promoting sportsmanship and encouraging youth participation in the islands.
Addressing the gathering, Er. Prjith Rekh commended the players for their discipline and enthusiasm, highlighting that sports play a vital role in fostering unity, resilience, and leadership among young people. Echoing similar views, Er. Mumtaz Ali appreciated OFSSEAD’s community-driven initiatives that bring people together and nurture emerging talent.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mohd. Rafique, General Secretary of OFSSEAD, said, “Football has the power to unite people and create opportunities for young talent. OFSSEAD is proud to provide a platform that promotes both athletic excellence and community development across South and South East Asia.”
