One RDS Employee Dead after Electrocution on Duty due to Non-Availability of Safety Equipment

Mr. Goutam Mondal by profession an Electrician working with RDS Project Ltd. lost his life due to electrocution on 28th April 2022 during duty hours at Port Blair. In a statement given to the Police, his colleague blamed the company for the death of Mr. Mondal. 

According to the FIR accessed by Nicobar Times, Mr. Narad Sardar also an employee of RDS Project Ltd. informed the police that they had asked the company for safety equipment many times, but it was not provided.

Mr. Mondal was electrocuted while he was adjusting the focus of the tower lights fixed on a trolley generator with his bare hands. 

The unfortunate death of Mr. Mondal took place during the night shift. According to Mr. Narad, he along with other labours were working near the runway close to the rear gate of INS Utkrosh. They were working on laying polythene when Mr. Goutam Mondal climbed on the generator to adjust the focus light at around 10:10 Pm. Mr. Mondal was suddenly electrocuted while he was adjusting the focus light with his bare hands, he screamed and fell off from the generator to the ground.

Mr. Narad along with other labourers massaged his hands and feet but Mr. Mondal was not responding. Mr. Mondal was then taken to District Hospital Garacharma in the Company Vehicle, where he was checked by the doctor and declared dead at about 10:25 Pm.

Mr. Narad in his statement to the Police blamed the company for the death of Mr. Mondal. According to Mr. Narad they had asked for safety equipment several times, but the company did not provide it to them.

Police has registered an FIR under Section 304-A of IPC against RDS Company.
