In a significant step towards enhancing support systems for women affected by violence, the One Stop Centre (OSC) in North & Middle Andaman has filled its existing staff vacancies under the Mission Shakti scheme of the Government of India. The newly appointed staff received their appointment letters from Deputy Commissioner Ms. Nandini Maharaj, IAS, in the presence of Assistant Commissioner (HQ) Mr. Ashish Joon.

The One Stop Centre operates under the umbrella of Mission Shakti and is part of the Union Territory Administration’s commitment to providing integrated assistance to women in distress—whether in private or public spaces. Functioning under one roof, the centre offers immediate and emergency services, including medical aid, legal assistance, temporary shelter for up to five days, police intervention, and psychological counselling.

With the recruitment of new personnel, the OSC is expected to function more efficiently, ensuring timely and comprehensive support to aggrieved women across the district.

Women in distress can seek help by visiting the centre directly or through referrals by Anganwadi workers, relatives, friends, or public servants. Assistance is also accessible via the Women Helpline at 181 or by contacting the OSC directly at 03192-273009.

The One Stop Centre not only addresses cases of violence but also facilitates the amicable resolution of minor familial disputes, promoting the safety, dignity, and security of women in the region.
