As part of the Government of India’s Mission Shakti initiative, the Union Territory Administration is actively implementing the One Stop Centre (OSC) Scheme across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence.
The OSCs serve as a comprehensive support system for women in distress, offering a range of services under one roof, including medical aid, legal assistance, police support, temporary shelter (for a maximum of five days), and psychological counselling. These centres aim to assist women facing violence in both private and public spaces, ensuring immediate and coordinated access to emergency and non-emergency services.
At present, three One Stop Centres are operational across the UT:
– South Andaman: Junglighat, near AYUSH Hospital | Contact: 03192-234221
– North & Middle Andaman: Zonal Library Building, Mayabunder | Contact: 03192-273009
– Nicobar District: Perka Headquarters | Contact: 03193-265141
Women in need can reach out to these centres directly, or through Anganwadi workers, relatives, friends, or public servants. Since their inception, the OSCs have handled numerous cases, supporting women from diverse backgrounds, including urban, rural, and tribal areas.
The centres also play a vital role in facilitating the redressal of grievances and amicable settlement of minor family disputes, contributing significantly to the safety and security of women across the Islands.
