The World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Since its inception, the day has evolved into one of the most significant global platforms for environmental advocacy and awareness. Drawing participation from tens of millions worldwide, the event encompasses various online and in-person activities, events, and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental stewardship.

This year, the World Environment Day campaign is centered around the themes of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience, encapsulated by the slogan ‘Our Land, Our Future, We are #GenerationRestoration’. In line with this global initiative, the Zoological Survey of India in Port Blair is gearing up for a unique celebration.

As part of the World Environment Day 2024 festivities, the Zoological Survey of India, Port Blair, is organizing an online drawing competition. The competition invites participation from students, teachers, and research scholars, urging them to showcase their creativity on the theme of land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

Participants are encouraged to submit their drawings via email to anrszsi@gmail.com on or before May 31st, 2024. This initiative not only provides a platform for artistic expression but also aims to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues and the importance of sustainable land management practices.

The online drawing competition serves as a testament to the Zoological Survey of India’s commitment to environmental conservation and education. Through engaging activities like these, the organization seeks to inspire individuals of all ages to take action towards a more sustainable and resilient future for our planet.
