Open Road Race Organized Under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’; Over 200 Participants Take Part

The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, organized an Open Road Race under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ on November 8, 2025. The event featured a 10 km race for men and a 5 km race for women, both starting and finishing at the Netaji Stadium Sports Complex.

The men’s race began from Netaji Stadium and went up to Megapode Chowk, while the women’s race covered the stretch from Netaji Stadium to the Marine Research Laboratory. The event was flagged off by Lt. Sachin Parashar, Utkrosh, in the presence of Mr. Vikram Singh, Director of Education and Sports, who graced the occasion as chief guest.

The initiative aimed to promote a drug-free lifestyle among the youth and encourage active participation in sports. Addressing the participants, the Director (Sports) congratulated all winners and particularly appreciated the young participants who successfully completed the 5 km and 10 km runs. He also urged parents to motivate their children to enrol in the Khelo India Centre at Netaji Stadium, which provides scientific sports training and modern equipment.

A total of 200 participants from schools, colleges, various organizations, and the general public took part in the event.

In the Open Women’s 5 Km category, Arpita Toppo (GSSS Rangachang) secured the first position, followed by Amrika Das (Chouldari) and Sanjana Bai (SSS Bathubasti). Aashwan Phan (SSS Rangachang) and Rinki Kumari (KV-1) received consolation prizes.

In the Open Men’s 10 Km category, Deva (Invent Public School) bagged the first place, while Chella Laxmi Naidu (JNRM College) and Abhishek (SSS Prothrapur) stood second and third respectively. Ganesh Kumar (SSS Tushnabad) and Subham (SSS Prothrapur) received consolation prizes.

The winners were felicitated with gold, silver, and bronze medals along with consolation prizes by the chief guest and other dignitaries.

Continuing its sports promotion initiatives, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs announced that a Marathon will be organized at the end of November or December 2025, starting from two locations—North Bay and Netaji Stadium—with participation from celebrities from the mainland.
