In a major move to unlock the untapped tourism potential of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the A&N Administration has announced a series of high-end, responsible tourism projects across four pristine islands—Shaheed Dweep, Long Island, Smith Island, and Aves Island—along with the redevelopment of the iconic Megapode Resort in Sri Vijaya Puram.

The projects, to be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aim to position the islands as a premier global destination for sustainable, nature-led tourism. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Holistic Development of Islands (HDI) framework, emphasizing eco-friendly and responsible tourism.

The Request for Proposal (RFP) for these projects was issued on 28th July, followed by a pre-bid conference on 14th August, which drew over 100 participants representing around 60 potential investors, including leading hospitality operators and developers.

The conference provided an overview of the project scope, PPP structuring, and the full life cycle of the proposed developments. Investors were encouraged to share suggestions and seek clarifications, which were addressed comprehensively by the administration. To give investors a firsthand understanding of the project sites, guided visits are scheduled for the first week of September.

With over 800 untouched islands and islets, vibrant coral reefs, dense tropical forests, and secluded white-sand beaches, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands offer a unique eco-tourism experience. These initiatives are expected to not only enhance tourism infrastructure but also promote sustainable development while preserving the natural beauty of the islands. (Story Based on PR)
