In a major blow to drug trafficking networks, authorities seized over 20 kilograms of methamphetamine from a dense forest area at Cutbert Bay in the North and Middle Andaman District on Sunday (04th May 2025).

Acting on a recent meth seizure in the area, a police team under supervision of Mr. Chandan GS, DANIPS, SDPO Rangat, conducted an early morning jungle operation on May 4. The team comprised officers from PS Billiground and PS Rangat, including SI M.V. Shiju Kumar (SHO PS Billiground), HC Diwbendu Biswas, PC Samir Halder, PC Sujan Gharami, PC Bhagirath, PC P. Sagar of PS Billiground and PC Mohd. Mustafa & PC T.K Anas of PS Rangat. The team was also accompanied by Scene of Crime Officer Ms. Nasreen.

The target area, accessible only by engine dinghy, lies deep within the Cutbert Bay forest—far from any settlement. With assistance from local fishermen, the police team landed at the Safed Balu point around 10:30 AM and began their trek into the jungle.

By 12:15 PM, the team discovered a suspicious white plastic sack hidden beneath thick undergrowth. In the presence of independent witness, the sack was opened, revealing 20 packets labeled “Gyanyinwang Refined Chinese Tea.” Each packet contained a white crystalline substance with a strong odour.

A field drug test confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine—a powerful and banned psychotropic drug under the NDPS Act. The total haul weighed 20.935 kilograms, with each packet ranging from approximately 1.027 kg to 1.068 kg.

The drugs were seized and the entire procedure was documented on video. Despite thorough efforts, no suspects were found.

A case has been registered under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act.
