Mr. Paritosh Kumar Haldar, President, Andaman Nicobar Democratic Congress has written a letter to the Chief Secretary raising questions on the quality of the road constructed between Shoal Bay-15 to Shoal Bay-19.

Mr. P.K Haldar, in his letter, has alleged that the road was inaugurated on 04th April 2022 by Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, and within 3-4 months, the road got damaged.

The road was constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana

He further informed that there are allegations that the contractor instead of using three layers of stone material, has used just two layers of stone materials in the 05 Km stretch of the road.

He mentioned that he is sure that the road will not last long and will get damaged in the next monsoon season.

Mr. Haldar explained that Shoal Bay Beach is one of the best beaches in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is visited by both locals and tourists.

Mr. Haldar also informed that Bengali Settlers were settled in Shoal Bay 70 years ago, and there was no road for them since their settlement.

He also enclosed photographs of the newly constructed but damaged road with his letter, for the reference of the Chief Secretary.

He requested the Chief Secretary to look into the issue.
