Mus Jetty is the only functional Jetty in Car Nicobar Island post-Tsunami. Mus Jetty facilitates both cargo as well as passenger transportation and is the lifeline of Car Nicobar Island. The Jetty is in a pathetic state as the amenities on the Jetty are not being maintained properly.
A cargo shed and a passenger waiting shed were constructed on the Jetty for the convenience of the traders and passengers. No efforts have been made over the years to properly maintain the Cargo Shed and Passenger Waiting Shed.
Finally, the Passenger waiting shed gave up its wait for maintenance a few days ago and collapsed.
The collapsed structure of the passenger waiting shed is testimony to the ignorance of the Administration towards the Nicobar Group of Islands. Nicobar Times has earlier published both a video and a text news story in 2022 on the pathetic condition of the Passenger Waiting Shed of Mus Jetty.
The authorities of the Port Management Board knew about the pathetic condition of the passenger waiting shed of Mus Jetty but still choose not to do anything about it.
Jetties are the most important asset on an Island, without jetties the lives of people living on an Island will become much tougher. The question is whether Port Management Board is doing enough to maintain the jetties constructed across the UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
