The Pawn to Queen Chess Club was formally inaugurated on February 2, 2026, at the Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sri Vijaya Puram, with enthusiastic participation from students and teachers.
The initiative aims to promote the game of chess among students by providing structured training, regular practice sessions, and opportunities to participate in inter-school and higher-level tournaments, thereby encouraging strategic thinking and intellectual development.
The club was inaugurated by Ms. Sangeeta Chand, Principal of GMSSS, who made the ceremonial first move on the chessboard against S. Bhavishya, a Class VI student of the school and a promising young chess player. On the occasion, the Principal felicitated Bhavishya in recognition of her notable achievements in chess and encouraged students to take up the game with dedication.
