In a significant move to strengthen forest communication and disaster preparedness, Mr. A.K. Biswal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), inaugurated the ‘Van Sanchar’ system in the presence of Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, PCCF (ANI).

The initiative marks the upgrade of the existing Very High Frequency (VHF) network to a High Frequency (HF) network, enabling seamless wireless connectivity between the Department of Environment and Forests and the remote Nicobar group of Islands.

Officials stated that the advanced communication system is expected to greatly enhance the protection network, reduce response times, and improve forest management operations across the Islands.

Moreover, the upgraded wireless system will also bolster disaster preparedness in the region, as the Forest Department’s communication network forms an integral part of the National Emergency Response System. With ongoing development activities in the Nicobar group of Islands, the new network is anticipated to play a pivotal role in ensuring effective coordination and swift action during emergencies.
