A peaceful public assembly and rally was held at Billiground Bazaar on Friday evening in support of students in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The programme was organised by the NGO Green Island Foundation at around 5.30 pm.
The rally witnessed participation from various trusts, the Auto Cargo Chalak Sangh, local clubs, Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, prominent citizens, delegations from different political parties, and members of the general public. The organisers said the turnout reflected collective concern over issues affecting students in the Islands.
Addressing the gathering, speakers stressed the need to safeguard students’ rights and resolve their concerns through democratic and peaceful means. The Foundation reiterated its commitment to stand in solidarity with the students and to advocate for their welfare.
At the end of the programme, participants took an oath pledging support to the students and expressing solidarity with their ongoing cause. It was also unanimously decided that similar peaceful assemblies would be organised daily at around 5.30 pm until the students’ strike concludes.
The event concluded peacefully, with organisers describing it as a show of unity and democratic participation in support of students’ interests.
