PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Campbell Bay, recently organised educational field visits for students in Grades IX to XII to explore the role of Information Technology (IT) in various sectors. The visits aimed to provide firsthand insights into how IT drives critical operations in areas such as defence, police, and telecommunications.

With the world heavily reliant on IT, the field visits were designed to showcase its significance in shaping various industries. Students who have opted for IT as a subject in their curriculum were given an opportunity to witness how IT integrates with real-world applications.

One of the highlights of the visit was a tour aboard a Coast Guard ship stationed in Campbell Bay. Students were briefed by officers on the ship about the technologies used in navigation and operations, gaining an understanding of how IT supports the defence forces in their mission-critical tasks.

The students also visited the local Police Radio Unit, where they were introduced to the communication technologies employed by the Andaman and Nicobar Police. Officers explained how the police radio system facilitates communication, even in the most remote areas of the Islands, ensuring public safety and efficient coordination.

Another important stop was the BSNL Telephone Exchange at Campbell Bay. Here, BSNL officers provided insights into the technologies that power cellular communication and Fiber to Home broadband services, playing a crucial role in connecting the people of Great Nicobar to the rest of the world.

Accompanied by several teachers, the students interacted with officers at each of these locations, deepening their understanding of the practical applications of IT in diverse fields. These visits are not only educational but also inspire students to consider pursuing higher studies in technology and related fields.

Located at the southernmost tip of India, PM SHRI GSSS Campbell Bay is in Great Nicobar Island, a remote region where such field visits are important to provide exposure to students. The experience encourages them to dream big and helps shape their future career aspirations.
