Displaying exemplary courage and professionalism, the Police Marine Force (PMF) Rangat successfully rescued a stranded fishing trawler, MV Sarveshwaran (Reg. No. IND-AN-SA-MM-2059), with five crew members onboard after it suffered an engine failure off Rangat Bay on Monday.
At around 3:50 pm, PMF Rangat received a distress alert relayed through the Fisheries Department, Nimbutala, reporting that the vessel was adrift and in urgent need of assistance. Acting swiftly, a PMF rescue team led by SI (Master) Abdul Lathief along with HCs Samson and C. Samsudeen, set out aboard Fast Interceptor Boat MV Suntook at 4:10 pm to conduct the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation.
Despite rough seas, heavy rains, and squally winds, the rescue team pressed ahead, maintaining constant vigilance while navigating treacherous waters. After a systematic search, the distressed trawler was located around 4.5 nautical miles from Rangat Bay jetty at approximately 5:15 pm.
The crew of Sarveshwaran was given immediate first aid before PMF personnel began the challenging task of towing the disabled vessel back to harbour. Braving adverse weather, the team displayed remarkable seamanship and resilience, eventually bringing the trawler safely to Rangat Bay Harbour, where it was anchored securely at the Inner Harbour.
The timely intervention averted a potential maritime mishap and ensured the complete safety of both the crew and vessel.
