Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, Chairperson of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), along with Mr. Sandeep Jain, Executive Director of Indian Oil Corporation, and other officials, met Admiral DK Joshi (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, at Raj Niwas on 19th February 2025.
The delegation made a presentation on the development of natural gas infrastructure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the presence of the Chief Secretary (i/c) and senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor was briefed on the proposed resource flow in the Islands, aimed at easing domestic LPG consumption and promoting CNG as a cleaner alternative for vehicles. The discussions also covered the impact of these initiatives on power generation in the region.
The meeting further reviewed the status of the 50 MW LNG power plant and other major projects in Great Nicobar. The Lt. Governor emphasized the need for Indian Oil Corporation to ensure adequate storage capacity in the outer islands to maintain an uninterrupted supply of LPG, especially during adverse weather conditions when replenishment becomes challenging.
The discussions mark a significant step towards enhancing energy security and sustainable development in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
