In a decisive move against bootlegging activities, the Kalighat Police Station team initiated a strategic operation resulting in the destruction of approximately 1500 litres of illicitly produced lehan. The action, led by Sub-Inspector Shilpi Singha and her team comprising PCs Sushil Sarkar, Ranjit Biswas, Suresh Soreng, and Baikanto Majhi, aimed to combat the rampant trade of illegal liquor plaguing the region.
The operation, conducted deep within the dense jungle of Talbagan, targeted three drums and 22 plastic buckets containing the raw material crucial for the illegal production of country liquor. This successful crackdown marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to eradicate the production and distribution networks associated with illicit alcohol in the area.
Lehan, a key ingredient in the unlawful manufacturing of alcohol, has posed persistent challenges, contributing to various social issues and public safety concerns in the region. Acknowledging the severity of the situation, the North & Middle Andaman District Police have escalated their measures to dismantle these illicit networks.
Under the vigilant supervision of Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and the overarching direction of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, N&M Andaman District, the operation was executed seamlessly.
The commendable efforts of the police force have received accolades from the local community, marking a significant advancement in the ongoing battle against illicit liquor trade, bootlegging, and substance abuse within the North & Middle Andaman District.
