In a remarkable display of community spirit and physical fitness, PS Billiground organised a half marathon themed “Run for Unity” on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day and the Birth Anniversary of the revered statesman, Late Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, observed as National Integration Day.
The event, which drew participation from 150 enthusiastic school students, aimed at promoting unity and commemorating the invaluable service of the police force. Under the clear sky and pleasant weather, the half marathon commenced at Swadesh Nagar School and culminated at Billiground Bazaar, symbolizing the town’s collective commitment to both physical well-being and solidarity within the community.
In a show of support and encouragement, Mr. Suresh Mazumdar, the District Education Officer of Mayabunder, graced the occasion with his presence. The active participation of the students underscored the town’s commitment to both fitness and solidarity. This initiative beautifully aligns with the ethos of commemorating the sacrifices of the police force and promoting unity among citizens, as exemplified by the legendary Late Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
The highlight of the event was the award ceremony, where winners in both boys and girls categories were honoured with certificates, trophies, and consolation prizes. These prizes were presented by Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police for North & Middle Andaman district.
The day concluded on a high note, with Sub-Inspector M.V. Shiju Kumar, Station House Officer of PS Billiground, applauding the unwavering enthusiasm displayed by the students. A heartfelt vote of thanks was extended to all the participants on behalf of the A&N Police. The success of this event was made possible through the guidance of Mr. Vishesh Dhatterwal, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Rangat, and the diligent direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police for North & Middle Andaman District.
The Billiground Half Marathon “Run for Unity” not only celebrated the town’s commitment to fitness but also paid a heartfelt tribute to the police force and the ideals of unity championed by the great Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
