In the ongoing battle against drugs, the Narcotics Cell, CID unit, in collaboration with the Diglipur Police Station, achieved a significant breakthrough as they intercepted a person and seized a substantial quantity of ganja. The operation, conducted on the basis of credible intelligence, led to the arrest of two individuals involved in the illicit drug trade.
Under the supervision of Mr Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, Dy.SP, Narcotics, a team comprising SI Mohd. Rahil Islam, ASI Sanjay Yadav, and PCs Ratan Das, Nandita Mistry, Vishal Kumar, and M. Raja Rao, swiftly acted on the specific information received. At VSI Airport near the fire pump room, the team intercepted Nirmal Biswas, a resident of Subash Gram, Diglipur, who had just arrived from Kolkata on July 10, 2023, via a flight.
During a thorough search, the officers discovered a clandestine stash of ganja weighing a total of 8.4 kilograms, cleverly concealed in Biswas’ bag. The law enforcement officials apprehended him on the spot, ensuring all necessary legal formalities were followed. Consequently, a case was registered under Crime No. 43/2023, dated July 10, 2023, U/s 20(b) (ii) B of the NDPS Act 1985 at PS CCS.
Subsequent interrogation of the arrested suspect revealed that he had procured the contraband ganja from Kolkata with the sole intention of selling it for exorbitant profits in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Further revelations from Biswas led investigators to his shop in Diglipur. To uncover additional evidence, a raiding team, led by Inspr. Vikash Singh, SHO PS Diglipur, along with SI Deepti Minj, HC(IRBn)/465 Santosh Nair, PCs Samaresh Mistry, Radhesham Howlader, Abubacker Siddque, and Rubi Mondal, under the supervision of Mr Lakshay Pandey, DANIPS, SDPO (Diglipur), swiftly conducted a raid at Nirmal Biswas’ shop.
The raid yielded the seizure of 964 grams of illicit ganja and resulted in the arrest of Biswas’ wife, Neetu Halder (39), who was entrusted with the task of selling the illegal substance to potential customers within the local community. Similar to the previous case, all necessary legal procedures were followed, and a separate case was registered under Crime No. 63/2023, dated July 10, 2023, U/s 20(b) (ii) A of the NDPS Act 1985 at PS Diglipur.
