Police Seizes 50 Grams of Illicit Ganja; One Arrest Made by PS Chatham

In a relentless effort to combat the menace of drug trafficking, the Chatham Police Station has once again demonstrated its commitment by apprehending an individual and confiscating 50 grams of illicit ganja. The operation, conducted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, underscores the ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes in the region.

On March 14, 2024, authorities were tipped off regarding the possession and potential sale of illegal substances by an individual identified as P. Sanjay near the Van Sadan Office in Haddo. In response, a dedicated team comprising Inspector Rasheeda, the Station House Officer of PS Chatham, along with ASI Taraknath and PC Surfudeen, was swiftly assembled under the supervision of Mr. Vikas Swami, IPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of South Andaman.

The coordinated raid at the specified location led to the apprehension of P. Sanjay, aged 28 and a resident of Haddo, who was found in possession of 50 grams of illicit ganja. The operation was conducted meticulously, adhering to established protocols and procedures.

Mr. Vikas Swami, IPS, SDPO South Andaman, provided oversight during the entire operation, which was carried out under the directives of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.

The public is reminded that any involvement in the production, possession, sale, purchase, transport, storage, or consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances constitutes a punishable offence under the law. Citizens are urged to refrain from engaging in such illegal activities and to promptly report any information related to drug trafficking or other illicit practices to the authorities.
