Police Seizes Large Quantity of Illicit Liquor in Talbagan Area of North and Middle Andaman District

In a swift operation conducted on 20th September 2024, the Kalighat Police Station successfully confiscated a significant amount of illicit liquor in the Talbagan area. The operation was conducted under close coordination by SHO of PS Kalighat.

The police team, comprising SI M J Indrajit (in-charge of OP Kishorinagar), along with constables Ripon Mistry, Mary Magdalene, K Hazrat Kumar, and Irenious, was deployed on a special checking drive in the Talbagan area. During the search, the following items were recovered:

– One 50-litre jerrycan containing approximately 48 litres of illicit liquor.

– One 40-litre jerrycan containing approximately 39 litres of illicit liquor.

– Three 2-litre plastic bottles containing approximately 5.5 litres of illicit liquor.

The liquor was found in the possession of 52-year-old Apurba Ballab, a private worker and resident of Talbagan. The recovered illicit liquor was seized on the spot under a formal seizure memo. A case has been registered against the accused under Crime No. 49/24, dated 20th September 2024, under Section 32 of Regulation III of 1876.

The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Diglipur, Mr. Ankesh Yadav (DANIPS), and showcases the proactive efforts of the local police to curb illegal activities in the area.

The police have urged the general public to come forward with any credible information regarding illegal activities in their vicinity. Citizens are encouraged to report such activities to their nearest police station or contact authorities via the helpline numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344. The police assured that informants’ identities would be kept confidential, and suitable rewards would be offered for their cooperation.
