The inaugural season of the much-awaited Police Soccer League – 2025 (PSL–2025) kicked off with great enthusiasm at the IRBn Headquarters, Port Mout, on November 11, marked by a grand opening ceremony and a gripping inaugural match.

The occasion also carried a moment of solemn pride as the playground at the IRBn Headquarters was dedicated to Late Head Constable (GD) Goma Barraik, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The ground was named Goma Sports Park in his honour, with his family members present to witness the tribute.

Ms. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, Inspector General of Police, graced the event as the chief guest, accompanied by Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Commandant (IRBn), Ms. Apoorva Gupta, IPS, and other senior officers of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. The chief guest ceremonially kicked off the opening match between Divyanka NFC, Diglipur, and Spark’s Boys, Bird Line. The tightly contested game ended with a 1–0 win for Divyanka NFC, setting an exciting tone for the tournament ahead.

The Police Soccer League 2025 features 28 teams representing local clubs, educational institutions, and youth organisations from across the Islands. The teams have been divided into four pools, with matches being played under both day and night conditions at Goma Sports Park to encourage greater participation and public engagement.

The league-cum-knockout tournament will continue over the coming weeks, leading up to the semifinals and the grand finale scheduled for next month.
