In a swift and professional operation, the Police team from PS Chatham has arrested an individual involved in a case of criminal breach of trust and fraudulent mortgage of gold.

The case came to light on June 30, 2024, when Mrs. V. Sumathi lodged a complaint at PS Chatham against her brother-in-law, P.K. Murugeshan, a resident of Anarkali. In her complaint, Sumathi alleged that Murugeshan had mortgaged her gold ornaments without her consent at Muthoot Finance and fled the islands with the proceeds. Following the complaint, an FIR was filed under the relevant sections of the law.

Through a combination of mobile surveillance and local intelligence, the police team gathered information suggesting that Murugeshan would be arriving in Sri Vijaya Puram in November to meet his family members. Acting on this lead, authorities closely monitored Veer Savarkar International Airport. On November 28, 2024, the accused was successfully apprehended by the Police at VSI airport.

This arrest highlights the commitment of the Andaman and Nicobar Police in ensuring justice and holding criminals accountable for their actions. Authorities have urged the public to report any information related to crime or illegal activities by calling 112, 03192-232100, or 03192-236641. The identity of informants will remain confidential.
