Police Training School Conducts Special Session on New Criminal Laws for Learned Prosecutors of A & N Islands

Three new Criminal Laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam – 2023 will come into force from 1st July 2024. Police Training School (PTS) in Prothrapur organized a special session aimed at educating and updating the prosecutors of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the New Criminal Laws.

The session, which took place on June 28, 2024, at the Conference Hall of Fire & Emergency Services (HQ), was conducted in a hybrid format under the supervision of Mr. Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, Principal of PTS. This format, combining both in-person and virtual attendance, allowed for greater flexibility and participation from various stakeholders.

A total of 12 prosecutors, along with the Principal and Vice Principal of PTS, Station House Officers, and other police personnel of the Andaman and Nicobar Police, actively participated in the session. The primary goal was to ensure all attendees were well-versed in the new legal frameworks and prepared for their imminent implementation.

Mr. Atul Srivastav, a distinguished Senior Additional Public Prosecutor from Tis Hazari Court, Delhi, served as the keynote speaker. He delivered an insightful and comprehensive lecture on the new criminal laws, sharing his expertise and extensive experience in the legal field. His presentation provided valuable insights and practical knowledge to the participants.

The special session on new criminal laws marks a significant step towards preparing the prosecutors and police personnel of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the transition to the new legal frameworks. The knowledge and insights gained from this session are expected to enhance their proficiency and effectiveness in enforcing the new laws, thereby contributing to a more robust and efficient criminal justice system in the region.
