Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) recently conducted a special cleanliness drive under the ‘Safai Apnao Bimaari Bhagao Abhiyan’ initiative across all 24 wards of the city. The campaign aimed to enhance urban hygiene and cleanliness, showcasing the dedication of PBMC sanitation staff even in adverse weather conditions.
Despite heavy rains that made the task challenging, the sanitation team displayed remarkable effort and commitment. They focused on cleaning streets, public spaces, drains, footpaths, and green bushes to ensure the city’s aesthetic and sanitary standards were met. Their dedication to maintaining cleanliness was evident as they worked tirelessly to promote a healthy environment and prevent communicable diseases.
This drive is part of PBMC’s ongoing efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment for its residents. By mobilizing resources and personnel, the council demonstrated its commitment to public health and urban well-being. During the cleanliness drive, a significant amount of dry waste was collected, totaling 3,106 kg.
Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, Secretary of PBMC, urged the general public to refrain from throwing garbage in open spaces. He encouraged citizens to segregate waste and hand it over to sanitary staff for proper disposal. PBMC’s successful cleanliness drive, despite heavy rain, underscores the importance of community cooperation and the relentless spirit of its workers in maintaining a clean and healthy city.
