In a horrifying act of domestic violence, a man was allegedly set ablaze by his own elder brother in Port Mout, near Ograbraj Kilan, following an argument during a morning drinking session.

The incident took place between 8 and 9 AM on Saturday, 7th June 2025. According to the FIR lodged at Ograbraj Police Station, the victim, Mr. Babu Lall (39), a private labourer, was living with his mother and elder brother, Ghan Shyam, in their family home. Together, they managed livestock including cows, pigs, and poultry to sustain their livelihood.

As per Babu Lall’s statement, he and his brother were consuming alcohol early in the morning when an argument escalated into a violent confrontation. Following the altercation, Babu stepped out of the house and sat on a nearby footpath. It was then that Ghan Shyam, in a fit of rage, allegedly approached him with a small plastic bottle containing petrol, poured it on him, and ignited it using a matchstick.

“My vest and half-pants caught fire instantly, and flames spread to my hands, chest, and cheek. I somehow managed to remove the burning clothes and run back into the house. I doused the flames with water and wrapped a towel around my waist before escaping to the nearby Ram Mandir premises,” said Babu in his chilling account recorded at PHC Chouldari.

A police party arrived promptly, calling an ambulance and shifting Babu to PHC Chouldari for treatment.

What adds a deeper layer to this incident is the victim’s revelation that the same brother, Ghan Shyam, had earlier murdered their younger sibling, Raj Kumar — a crime for which he was previously imprisoned.

Babu Lall has requested strict legal action against his brother, stating that the attempt to burn him alive was a deliberate attempt on his life.

A case has been registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 at PS Ograbraj.
