Mr. E S Rajesh, Pramukh of the Panchayat Samiti, Campbell Bay, led a delegation of community members on a visit to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Campbell Bay today to address several pressing issues affecting local healthcare services.
During the visit, Pramukh Rajesh highlighted concerns regarding recent incidents of negligence by medical staff, particularly citing a case involving a three-year-old child. The Medical Officer In-Charge (MO i/c) assured the delegation that steps would be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
A significant focus of the discussion centered around the need to introduce Digital X-Ray and Ultrasound facilities at the PHC. The MO i/c informed the delegation that new equipment for these services has arrived from Port Blair and will soon be operational pending installation by a technician deputed by the Directorate.
Additionally, concerns were raised about the poor condition of one of the ambulances. It was agreed that the MO i/c would escalate the repair request, while Pramukh Rajesh pledged to personally advocate for repairs with the Director’s office.
Another critical issue brought to light was the non-functioning Mosquito Fogging Machine, crucial for public health measures in the area. The Pramukh urged immediate repairs to ensure the well-being of the community.
During their inspection of the hospital premises, Pramukh Rajesh and community members including Mr. K.C Murugan, Mr. T Shiva Raj, Mr. G Koteshwar Rao, Mr. John, Mr. Kalai, and Mr. Gopal noted improvements such as recently repaired toilets, which have provided some relief to patients amidst ongoing minor renovations at the PHC.
The visit concluded with assurances from both sides to continue collaborating closely to address these and other healthcare challenges facing Campbell Bay.
This engagement underscores the community’s proactive approach in advocating for enhanced healthcare services in the region.
