A woman from Prem Nagar in South Andaman has fallen victim to an online financial scam after being tricked by a caller who falsely claimed to be her manager.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on the evening of 9 May 2025. The woman received a call from an unknown number, where the caller introduced himself as her manager and said he was facing technical difficulties while trying to transfer money to a relative. He requested her assistance in transferring the amount on his behalf, assuring her that he would reimburse her immediately.

Minutes after the call, a screenshot—purporting to show the transfer—was sent to the woman via WhatsApp. Trusting the authenticity of the image and the caller’s identity, she transferred ₹15,000 in two instalments through Google Pay to a mobile number registered on GPay under the name “Gangadhar Naik.”

It was only after checking her bank account that she realised that the screenshot she received was fake and no amount was credited to her bank account. Suspecting fraud, she filed a complaint through the National Crime Reporting Portal the same day and subsequently a formal FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station on 13 May.

The case has been registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
