Prof. Balraj Chauhan Urges Island Institutions to Rise to Islanders’ Needs in Address at ALC

Renowned legal academician and former Vice-Chancellor of National Law Universities at Bhopal and Lucknow, Prof. Balraj Chauhan, urged the educational institutions of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to rise to the needs of the islanders and develop their curriculum and syllabus to provide answers to the issues faced by the island population.

While addressing the faculty and students of Andaman Law College (ALC) on Friday evening, Prof. Chauhan underlined the importance of understanding the local realities of the islands, especially in the areas of forest, wildlife, and social issues. He assured to extend all possible support to the Law College in its academic and institutional endeavours.

Prof. Chauhan, who is also a former Member of the Uttar Pradesh Law Commission and the U.P. State Legal Services Authority, appreciated the performance of ALC in terms of academic instruction and extension activities. He emphasized the need for the college to strengthen its collaboration with NGOs, the advocate fraternity, and other colleges from the mainland.

A former President of the Indian Society of Criminology and Member of the Committee on Reforms in Criminal Law, Prof. Chauhan was felicitated on the occasion by Dr. P.V. Nagendra Sarma, Principal, who presided over the event.

Prof. Chauhan expressed satisfaction with his visit to the islands and complimented the A&N Administration for developing the region as a vibrant tourist hub. He also consented to serve as a Member of the BoS in Law of Andaman Law College.
