In a decisive operation aimed at curbing the illegal liquor trade, the Billiground Police Station (PS) conducted a successful raid in the Korang Nallah jungle on October 5, 2024. The operation was spearheaded by Sub-Inspector Shiju Kumar, SHO of PS Billiground, with a dedicated team led by Head Constable Amrita Bawali. The team included Police Constables Ashok Das, Anurud Das, Biplab Bachar, and Abhijeet Mondal.

Following suspicions of illicit activities in the area, the jungle was placed under surveillance. Acting on the gathered intelligence, the police team carried out a targeted search of the Korang Nallah jungle, where they uncovered an illegal distillation unit. The officers seized two fully operational distillation units (bhattis), nine iron drums containing 2,000 litres of lehan (the raw material used to produce liquor), two half-drums, and other equipment related to the distillation process.

In a swift and decisive move, the police team destroyed the confiscated lehan and bhatti materials on-site, effectively neutralising the illegal liquor operation. This action demonstrates the North & Middle Andaman District Police’s ongoing commitment to tackling the illegal production and distribution of liquor in the region.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SDPO Rangat, and was overseen by Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
