In a resolute crackdown on illegal gambling activities, PS Central Crime Station (CCS) successfully conducted a raid on Shanthi’s Kitchen Restaurant in Brichgunj Chowk, resulting in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of more than one lakh rupees.
The operation unfolded late in the evening on November 2, 2023, following the receipt of credible information regarding illicit gambling activities taking place at Shanthi’s Kitchen Restaurant. A team of officers from the CCS swiftly responded to the tip-off and arrived at the scene, where they discovered four individuals engaged in a card game within the restaurant premises.
Efforts by the gamblers to evade capture proved futile, as the police team skillfully apprehended all four suspects involved in the unlawful gambling activities. A substantial sum of money, totalling Rs. 1,16,400, was seized from the individuals, which included a board money amounting to Rs. 45,700.
The arrested gamblers now face charges under Section 5/7 of the Andaman and Nicobar Gambling Regulation Act of 1951. Further investigation revealed that the gambling den was allegedly operated by A. Murugesan, son of Mr. P. Alagu, a resident of Bathu Basti.
The raid was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Mr. Kumar Abhishek, DANIPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID), and the overall supervision of Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID).
