In a concerted effort to combat illegal activities, the PS Central Crime Station (PS CCS) in Port Blair conducted a successful raid on a gambling den in the Haddo area near Government Senior Secondary School Telugu Medium. The operation led to the arrest of seven individuals engaged in illegal gambling.
The operation, carried out on the night of October 14, 2023, came in response to credible information received by PS CCS about illicit gambling activities in the Haddo area near the school. A dedicated team of PS CCS officers swiftly responded to the tip and arrived at the location, discovering a group of individuals engaged in card games in an open area adjacent to the school.
The officers encircled the area, preventing the gamblers from escaping, and apprehended all seven suspects. During the operation, a substantial amount of cash amounting to ₹33,260 was recovered from them with ₹29,160 in betting stakes. All seven individuals were promptly taken into custody and are now facing legal action under section 5/7 of the Andaman and Nicobar Gambling Regulation 1951.
It was revealed that the illicit gambling establishment was being run by Mohd. Fahim, a local travel agent residing in Haddo. The entire operation was conducted under the leadership of Mr. Kumar Abhishek, Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID), and the overall supervision of Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, Superintendent of Police (CID).
