PS Central Crime Station Seizes 346 Grams of Ganja, Arrests One in Port Blair

On the intervening night of February 28th and 29th, 2024, a successful raid was conducted by the Central Crime Station (CCS) in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, resulting in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a significant quantity of ganja.

Acting on specific intelligence received from a reliable source, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Vishal Ram, the Station House Officer of CCS, along with Sub-Inspector Parvash and a team of officers, including Head Constable Sanjit Madhu, Sanjay Kujur, Constable K. Rajendran, and Kabita Dutta, swiftly moved to the parking area of Corbyn’s Cove.

During the operation, the team apprehended Sarfaraz Alam, aged 32 and a resident of Corbyn’s Cove, Port Blair, with 346 grams of ganja in his possession. Alam, who owns an auto and drives it himself, was arrested on the spot in accordance with due procedure. Notably, Alam has a history with law enforcement, having been previously arrested in connection with a POCSO case in 2020 and an IPC case in 2022 by the Aberdeen Police.

The raid, commanded by Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID), and under the overall supervision of Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID), resulted in the registration of a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act-1985 at PS CCS, with investigations currently ongoing.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police have consistently demonstrated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace in the islands. In 2023 alone, the police registered 77 NDPS cases, leading to the arrest of 112 accused individuals and the seizure of various illicit substances, including 85.825 kilograms of ganja, 07.588 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1.100 kilograms of cocaine, among others.

Continuing their relentless battle against drugs, the A&N Police have registered 10 NDPS cases and apprehended 11 accused persons in the year 2024 up to March 6th.
