In a comprehensive and well-coordinated initiative supervised by the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), the Police Station Chatham of A&N Police demonstrated its firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. Acting on credible intelligence inputs regarding the transportation and possession of contraband substances, Police Station Chatham executed a series of meticulously planned operations over a span of 21 days, resulting in multiple successful raids.
On 09.08.2025, a dedicated police team of PS Chatham conducted a strategic raid at AIR Road, Delanipur, Sri Vijaya Puram. The team was led by Inspector Ranga Raj (SHO PS Chatham) along with HC Nitish Kumar Podder, PCs Hasif Hussain, S.M. Krishna, and PC (Driver) Viswajeet Ram under the command of Mr. Ajay Rai, DANIPS, SDPO (SA). During the raid, K. Suresh (37 years) S/o Late K. Rajaiah, R/o Ranchi Basti, School Line, Sri Vijaya Puram was apprehended while in possession of 555 grams of Methamphetamine, intended for sale at an exorbitant price. Accordingly, a case under the NDPS Act was registered at PS Chatham.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had procured the contraband from a person at Mayabunder. Acting swiftly, ASI Muthu Kannan (I.O.), PC Arun Halder and the above team of PS Chatham proceeded to Mayabunder. Based on the lead, a raid was conducted, resulting in recovery of 2.055 kg of Methamphetamine from two individuals namely Saw Geykhu (32 years) S/o Saw Philip, Fisherman, R/o Karmatang No.10 and Saw Herald (24 years) S/o Saw Timothy, Fisherman, R/o Webi, Mayabunder. They were arrested after observing all legal formalities. The vehicle used for transporting the contraband was also seized.
Investigation revealed that Saw Herald had found Methamphetamine while fishing near Arguna close to Dhani Nallah beach and handed it over to Saw Geykhu, who later passed it on to his friend K. Suresh of Sri Vijaya Puram for sale among the youth of these Islands at high prices.
Later, on 26.08.2025, acting on further intelligence, the above police team of PS Chatham led by Inspector Ranga Raj, SHO, PS Chatham, conducted another raid and recovered 1.045 kg of Methamphetamine, from the possession of Pranab Kumar Roy (48 years) S/o Late Sripada Roy R/o R.K. Pur, Little Andaman. Based on his disclosure statement, an additional 9.12 kg of Methamphetamine were recovered from the seashore of Dinghi Ghat, R.K. Pur, Little Andaman. Investigation revealed that about 2–3 years ago, while fishing at R.K. Pur, the accused had found the contraband and buried it under a tree, intending to sell it later at Sri Vijaya Puram for an exorbitant price.
With these successful operations, the A&N Police in total seized 12.775 kg of Methamphetamine.
Under the prevailing law, consuming, possessing, distributing and selling the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances is prohibited under NDPS Act 1985 and can be punishable up to 20 years of imprisonment.
