In a swift and decisive operation, the vigilant team at PS Kadamtala intercepted an individual suspected of engaging in the illegal sale of venison at Kadamtala Bazaar today. Led by Sub-Inspector P.M Krishna Kumar, Station House Officer of PS Kadamtala, the team comprising Head Constable Pradeep Das, and Police Constables Sikendar Khan, Sevika Xalxo, and Palani, acted upon credible information to apprehend the suspect.
The individual, identified as Subendu Kumar Mondal, was spotted carrying two heavy plastic bags behind the Bengali Hotel in Kadamtala in a suspicious manner. Upon noticing the police presence, Mondal exhibited visible signs of hesitation and attempted to retreat swiftly, raising suspicion among the officers. A thorough search of the bags led to the discovery of red meat suspected to be venison, a wildlife-protected species.
During interrogation, Mondal, also known as Bappa and aged 37, and a resident of Kadamtala, confessed to possessing the venison meat. In accordance with the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972 and based on the evidence at hand, approximately 32 kg of venison meat was confiscated, and Mondal was apprehended by Sub-Inspector P.M Krishna Kumar.
Authorities promptly notified Bajalungta Range Forest Officials about the apprehension and confiscated meat. Both Mondal and the confiscated items were handed over to the forest officials for further necessary action.
The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Chandra Prakash Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Rangat, with oversight from Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
