In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in the North and Middle Andaman District, Kalighat Police Station continues to intensify its fight against the illegal drug trade. In a recent operation, the police apprehended a suspect in possession of a substantial quantity of illicit ganja.
Acting on a tip-off, the police received information that an individual was traveling on a motorcycle, bearing the registration number AN01Q3389, towards the Talbagan area, carrying a significant amount of ganja. A raiding team, led by SI Ashok Kumar Baghel, SHO of PS Kalighat, was quickly assembled. The team included HC(D) Rupesh Kumar, PCs Subrata Biswas, Sushil Sarkar, R Devika, and Subralekha, and was accompanied by two independent witnesses. The operation was supervised by Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur.
The team strategically positioned themselves at Kalara Junction, waiting for the suspect. Their vigilance paid off when the motorcycle in question was spotted approaching the junction. The raiding team immediately intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search, resulting in the discovery of 200 grams of illicit ganja in the possession of the rider, identified as Bipin Bairagi, 25, a resident of Talbagan.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the illegal activity. He was subsequently arrested, and a case was registered at Kalighat Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation was conducted under the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
