In a major crackdown on narcotics and psychotropic substances, PS Pahargaon seized large number of psychotropic tablets during a night raid at Teyerlabad near Anant Vihar Colony on 02nd September 2025.

The operation was launched after Inspector Mohd. Elias, SHO PS Pahargaon, received credible information about an illegal drug transaction in the area. Acting on the directions of Mr. Ajay Rai, SDPO (South Andaman), a raiding team was constituted and rushed to the spot around 9:10 pm.

At around 9:30 pm, the team intercepted a suspect with a parcel in the premises of an ice factory at Teyerlabad. On searching the parcel in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered 35 strips of Alprazolam tablets (0.5 mg each), totalling 525 tablets (0.26 grams of Alprazolam in total).

The tablets were seized on the spot, and the suspect was taken into custody under Section 22(a) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Alprazolam, though not banned in India, is classified as a psychotropic substance under the NDPS Act and can only be manufactured, prescribed, and sold under strict regulatory control.
