As awareness around traditional cyber scams increases, cybercriminals are evolving, devising more sophisticated methods to deceive unsuspecting individuals. A new scam, dubbed the “Fake Delivery Parcel Scam,” is on the rise, targeting individuals to obtain One-Time Passwords (OTPs) used for fraudulent bank transactions and unauthorised access to personal information such as email accounts etc.
This scam typically involves individuals who work closely with delivery agents or logistics agencies. Fraudsters identify people who frequently receive packages from e-commerce platforms and then develop strategies to manipulate these unsuspecting recipients.
In response to the rising number of incidents, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have issued the following advisory to help individuals safeguard themselves from becoming victims of this scam:
Safety Tips from Andaman and Nicobar Police:
1. Verify Orders and Delivery Dates: Before accepting or rejecting any package, cross-check your order history and confirm expected delivery dates.
2. Avoid Clicking Suspicious Links: Do not click on any links received via SMS or email regarding unexpected package deliveries.
3. Scrutinize URLs Carefully: Always inspect the links before entering any personal information or OTP. Be cautious of URLs that seem suspicious or unfamiliar.
4. Protect Personal Information: Do not share personal details such as your address, email ID, or phone number unless absolutely necessary.
5. Ignore Unsolicited Delivery Messages: If you receive an unexpected delivery notice via SMS or email, refrain from clicking on any links or calling back the number provided.
