Public Hearing Scheduled for Objections/Suggestions/Comments on Petition for Electricity Tariff Enhancement in A & N Islands for FY 2024-25

The Electricity Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has submitted Petition Number 119/2024 before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for the State of Goa and Union Territories. This petition, filed under sections 61, 62, and 64 of the Electricity Act, 2003, seeks approval for the True-up of FY 2021-22, the Annual Performance Review of FY 2023-24, and the Annual Revenue Requirement & Tariff Proposal for FY 2024-25.

The JERC has scheduled public hearings for this petition at various locations, allowing stakeholders to voice their opinions. The first hearing took place on January 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the Conference Hall of Dolphin Resort, Swaraj Dweep. Subsequent hearings are planned for January 25, 2024, at 3:30 PM at DBRAIT Conference Hall in Port Blair and January 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Mayabunder Community Hall in the North and Middle Andaman District.

Interested individuals or stakeholders can submit objections, suggestions, or comments in person or via registered post addressed to the Secretary, JERC (for the State of Goa and UTs), 3rd Floor & 4th Floor, Plot No. 55-56, Udyog Vihar Phase IV, Sector – 18, Gurugram, Haryana – 122015. Alternatively, submissions can be sent via email to secy.jercuts@gov.in and raengg4-jercuts@govcontractor.in, on or before January 27, 2024, with a copy to the Superintendent Engineer, Electricity Department, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Port Blair – 744101 (Email: seed.and@nic.in).

The public hearing was advertised by the JERC, claiming that the petition is available on the Commission’s website (www.jercuts.gov.in) and the petitioner’s website, Electricity Department, Andaman and Nicobar Administration (www.vidyut.andaman.gov.in).

However, Nicobar Times has been unable to locate the petition on the Electricity Department’s website. An email has been sent by Nicobar Times to obtain clarification on the non-availability of the petition’s copy on ED’s website, and updates will be provided upon receiving a response from the relevant authorities.

The copy of the petition was available on the website of JERC (for the State of Goa and UTs).

The petition submitted to the JERC also seeks permission to enhance power tariffs for all categories of consumers across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
