Public Hearings for Preparation of Social Impact Assessment Report for Green Field International Airport at Great Nicobar to be Held Today

Today, public hearings will be held in Gandhi Nagar and Shastri Nagar villages as mandated under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 for the preparation of Social Impact Assessment Report for Construction of Green Field International Airport at Great Nicobar.

The Draft Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Report for the proposed Green Field International Airport project in Great Nicobar was prepared by Delhi-based firm M/s Probe Social Development & Research Pvt. Ltd., the draft report was submitted on May 23, 2024, covering an area of 404.8194 hectares. This report had been made available for public review. 

Social Welfare Department of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration had invited stakeholders to submit their comments or objections in writing by 5 PM on June 26, 2024. 

To further engage with the community, two public hearings have been scheduled on Great Nicobar Island today. The first hearing will take place at 11 AM at the Gandhi Nagar Community Hall, followed by the second hearing at 3 PM in Shastri Nagar. 

Stakeholders from the villages of Gandhi Nagar and Shastri Nagar will be attending these hearings. They will have the opportunity to voice their concerns and demands.

  1. Better scrap this project which is only going to benefit some major business man in India …. Don’t fool world with social impact assessment? And why you are not conducting environment impact assessment ? It’s so visible that your project is going to destroy forest, biodiversity and eco-system, we already facing climate change so better tell rich and greedy people to stay away from this beautiful island
