Public Prosecutor & his Team Played an Important Role in Securing Arrest of Former Chief Secretary Jitendra Narain

Mr. Jitendra Narain, the Former Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands was arrested by the Special Investigation Team of Andaman and Nicobar Police on Thursday evening after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Hon’ble Session Court, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Mr. Jitendra Narain, a 1990 Batch IAS Officer of the AGMUT Cadre is one of the accused in the Andaman Gang Rape Case (Andaman Job for Sex Scandal). The arrest of Mr. Jitendra Narain garnered a lot of attention in the National Media. 

Every accused has the right to the best defence and Mr. Jitendra Narain has one of the best legal teams.

The Victim was also represented by very brilliant legal minds, but the role of the Prosecution, in this case, cannot be ignored.

Mr. Sumit Kumar Karmakar, Learner Public Prosecutor and his team did an excellent job which led to the Hon’ble Sessions Court rejecting the Anticipatory Bail Application filed by Mr. Jitendra Narain.

On Thursday the arguments before the court started at about 09:30 Am, the Learned Advocate for the Petitioner (Mr. Jitendra Narain) presented his case at length. Thereafter, the Learned Public Prosecutor Mr. Sumit Kumar Karmakar argued before the court at length and pointed out all important aspects of the case and prayed for the rejection of the Anticipatory Bail Plea.

The Ld. Public Prosecutor during his arguments pointed out that although Mr. Narain appeared before the Special Investigation Team, but he is not cooperating with the investigation in any manner. He emphasised that the custodial interrogation of the petitioner is required for further development in the investigation. 

The Victim’s Advocates also argued before the Court and prayed for rejection of the Anticipatory Bail Plea.

The Court passed the order post 03:30 Pm and rejected the Anticipatory Bail Application filed by Mr. Jitendra Narain.

Mr. Jitendra Narain was later arrested by Andaman and Nicobar Police from a private resort where he had been residing ever since he came back to Port Blair to face the investigation.
